Her Platform is Angels Among Us!
The purpose of Angels Among Us is to encourage people to share their gifts
and talents through volunteerism in their communities. Each day we have
the opportunity to make a difference in small and large ways, monetary and
non monetary. The goal of her platform is for everyone, children and
adults to start to think less about themselves and more about how they can
help others.
She chose this platform is because there are so many charities and
organizations that are important to her that to choose just one to support
and promote would be impossible.
Angels Among Us encourages everyone to find a cause to support and to find
moments in every day that they can make a difference and touch the life of
another person.
Why volunteering is important, and how can anyone else help:
Everyone can volunteer; both young and old. Children learn by example and
when they see their parents giving of their time and talents they will
want to do so too. It can be something as simple as going through their
toys and clothes to donate items they no longer use to a local domestic
violence or homeless shelter.
What is the history of your platforms cause?
I came up with my platform this year after I talked with my friend Mrs.
Utah about ways to promote volunteerism in the community. I chose the
title Angels Among Us as a guide to everyone to find ways each day to
touch the lives of those they meet.
Her information about how and why you became involved:
I have been doing volunteer work since my Brownie and Girl Scout years.
Even before I could drive I volunteered as a “candy striper” at a local
nursing home and during those busy years of college I tutored children and
was a mentor a local children’s residential program. Currently I am
involved with several main “causes” including a weekly appearance at Give
Kids the World Village as a village princess at the Pirates and Princesses
party which I look forward to every week. I’m also active with Queen for a
Day, a charity that strives to improve the self image and self esteem of
children with life threatening illnesses. Other causes include Special
Olympics, volunteering as an eligibility specialist and counselor at
clinics that provide services to the uninsured, and the local SPCA.
I take pride in my country and feel privileged to have the opportunity to
use my title to give of my talents to others.
