Introducing Our New
Miss Teen America's Touch Of Class 2008

Miss Briana Sunshine
Her Platform Is Child Abuse Awareness
Child abuse is something that we all need to be aware of. It is something I
have seen first hand and if such things continue to go unnoticed, horrible
things can happen to young and innocent children. Though no one may be able
to tell it can scar people that have gone through it emotionally for life
even though they may be smiling on the outside. Society ignores the problems
of today’s world and as well hidden this problem may be, it still isn’t
right. If we only noticed little things and were aware of things more we
could stop it. Even it were just asking a child how they got hurt and
actually noticing if they were being truthful, we might be able to save one
child from the rage of a violent guardian.
Why did she chose it?
This issue is something no one would like to go through but I have gone
through it and have seen what it can to do a child as well as an adult. It
doesn’t get better with ignoring the problem it can only get worse. Someone
could end up hurt enough to be hospitalized or even killed. Growing up
around anger as a child wasn’t the best way to grow in to an ambitious young
woman. The situation in a house of abuse can confuse and cause a person to
be scared of letting others close ever again in fear of being hurt again. I
can’t say I have gotten past all the emotional scaring but I have come to
deal with a lot and have tried to open myself to others once again.
What is the history of this platform?
Unfortunately this issue isn’t new it has gone on for a while but recently
it has seemed to get worse. It has continued to go on throughout the years
we just need to break this cycle before the next generation picks up this
habit. Most abused and neglected children never come to the attention of
government authorities. Some actually hide it to protect their abusers
because they feel it will only make things worse for them. Or they don’t
want to be taken away from their family and friends. If only more were aware
of the dangers these children face just walking through the door of their
own home each day.
